News about PS VITA SLIM


 

As we had advanced, Sony has held an event in London to announce the launch in Europe of the PlayStation Vita Slim (PS Vita 2000), a new model of the portable console, thinner and lighter, with greater autonomy and storage capacity.



 

PlayStation Vita Slim can now be pre-ordered for availability on February 7 for £ 180 in the UK market. We await information on availability in the rest of Europe (Spain included) and its price in euros.

 

The new laptop - already marketed in Japan - reaches the international market at a time of great changes in the sector, especially complicated for portable consoles that have been losing sales in recent quarters due to the explosion of smartphones and tablets

As for the changes on the original PS Vita we offer you the most relevant:

Construction and design

The PS Vita Slim has roughly the same proportions as the original (85.1 x 183.6 by 83.5 x 182 mm) although it is 3 millimeters thinner, from 18 to 15 mm. Its weight has been significantly reduced, from 260 to 219 grams.

Maintains design structure although the new model is more rounded. In Japan it is offered in six color finishes, although at the moment in Europe only the black version will arrive.

The biggest difference between the two comes from this section, given the replacement for cost reasons of the OLED screen by an IPS LCD, still maintaining the 5-inch diagonal and the native resolution of 960 x 544 pixels. Analysis of the model in Japan indicates that the colors are not as vivid and the blacks are not that deep, something to be expected due to the change of the panel.

Battery

Both consoles have a 2,210 mAh battery, but Sony ensures that the Slim will be able to increase the autonomy. In real tests, the original lasts about 4 hours. Sony estimates up to six hours of playtime with the Slim although that is something to check.

Storage and connectivity

The new Slim has 1 Gbyte of flash memory for storage, although it repeats Sony's fateful strategy of not using standard cards and only their owners, who do not want anyone and are very expensive. A black point that compensates with another positive: a new connector - finally - microUSB.

Games

PS Vita Slim maintains compatibility with the existing ones for the original model and for Remote Play that allows to run - natively via stream - the PS4 games. The launch of new titles with the console has not been facilitated, although we suppose there will be a special edition with some of the ‘fat’ plus the ‘indie’ series on the platform.




Price

Although the launch price of the PlayStation Vita Slim is lower than that of the PS Vita launch, we believe that it will be lower in price since it can be found below 170 euros and transferring the price of the Slim from pounds to euros will about 220 euros. We already confirmed.

Here the user will have to decide although the OLED screen of the original will weigh in the purchase decision despite the improvements in design, storage and autonomy of the PlayStation Vita Slim.
